#Donate: Social Media for Social Good

Is it just me, or has social media has kind of sucked lately? Between the presidential candidacy hooplah and the bickering over religion, guns, politics, and all kinds of “isms,” Facebook and Twitter have been . . . well . . . sucky.

I admit, I’ve kind of let it get me down. Time to regroup.

One of the best ways to get out of a slump is to do something for someone else. I truly believe that social media can be a powerful means for social good, which is why I’m psyched to be hooked up with GoodWorld—an organization that makes it easier for people to support their favorite causes through social media.

Once you sign up with GoodWorld, you can donate to any of the 1300 nonprofit organizations they’ve partnered with simply by posting #donate and a dollar amount on that nonprofit’s Facebook or Twitter pages.

For example, I’ve chosen to #donate to Feeding America. Hunger is a global issue for many reasons from poverty to war to climate change—complex problems that require complex solutions. But there is no reason that hunger should be an issue in a first-world nation where there is plenty of food to go around. Yet, it is.

Feeding America is a well-established network of food banks across the U.S. that provide meals for families who are struggling to put food on the table. According to their research, 1 in 7 families utilize food banks in our country. Hunger happens here at home, but it doesn’t have to. GoodWorld makes it super simple to #donate. What’s easier than a #?

From December 12 to 23, GoodWorld is hosting a 12 Day of Giving giveaway. During the 12 Days of Giving, if you #donate to any GoodWorld nonprofit or sign up for GoodWorld, you’ll be automatically entered for a chance to win a $1,000 Amazon gift card!

Bonus: Refer your friends! Each referral sent out through your GoodWorld dashboard will count as one additional entry to win the $1,000 prize!

Let’s give social media a positive boost and do some extra good this holiday season.
