Why The Muse Can Be Hard to Teach Sometimes

Today The Muse was working on a page about plural nouns from her Brainquest workbook. One of the exercises was to think of some nouns that end in –ch, -sh, -ss, or – x, and then add –es to make them plural. The Muse sat there for about ten seconds before her face lit up like a light bulb and she wrote down her first word.

The word she wrote? MUNICH.

That’s right, Munich. As in Germany. As in, “But mom, Munich IS a noun. It’s a place.” As in, “Yes, honey, but that’s a proper noun. There’s only one Munich. We can’t really make that word plural.” She even spelled it right, for crying out loud. Teaching is such a funny experience sometimes.
