The other day, The Muse had her friend Poppy over for a sleepover. BoyWonder decided that Poppy was the be-all-end-all-woman-of-his-dreams. It was so cute how he’d try to impress her. He kept doing silly things with this goofy, almost nerd-like, laugh. At one point, he tried to lift the kitchen island, presumably to show her how strong he is.
The next morning at breakfast, BoyWonder and The Muse and Poppy were sitting at the dining table eating pancakes. I’d given BoyWonder a whole pancake to sit and eat with his hands. A few minutes later, he came into the kitchen, looked up at me and quietly said, “Uh fuh.” “What?” I said. “Uh fuh,” he said again – earnestly, but almost under his breath. Since I’m fairly fluent in BoyWonderese, I was able to decipher what he wanted. “You want a fork?” I asked. Big smile and nod, then he ran back to the table. It was literally as if he’d whispered, “Mom, quick, give me a fork so she doesn’t think I’m a baby!”
How young it all starts . . .
