So BoyWonder has finally started so say some adorable, discernible words at 18 months. Here’s his list of consistent words, with pronunciation:
Ball (Ball)
Car (Cah) (Such a boy!)
Water (Bwallah)
Diaper (Bapa)
Grandpa (Bapa) (Yes, “diaper” and “Grandpa” sound the same. Tee hee.)
Button (Ba-mm)
Mama (only when he’s mad, for some reason, which isn’t too often)
Ella (Ella)
Paula (Pahla) (He’s not been totally consistent on this one, but he tries really hard.)
Oddly, he rarely says Mama or Dada. Like I said, I only get “Mama” when he’s mad, and then it’s “Mamamamamama!”
Half the time he talks with his mouth closed, which is a marked improvement over a few months ago when about 75% of his talking was closed-mouthed. Full inflections, clearly “talking” just hummed and grunted. Pretty funny, actually.
I forgot how awesome it is having a toddler. He’s just so delightful most of the time. And everything he does is cute. He gets so excited when he says a word and we understand him. If I ask him a question and he wants to say yes, he just giggles. (Actually, he is starting to nod “yes” and shake his head “no” now, but for the past few months it’s just been giggling for “yes.”) And if you do some kind of song or fingerplay with him and he wants to do it again, he looks at you, tilts his head all the way to one side and makes a little question mark sound with his voice. So so so cute.
God, I love that kid.

lets not forget “wa-ow”!
As the inspiration for him saying “Pahla”, I have to say it is the cutest thing ever! I also have to commend the little guy for trying so hard to make the most difficult sound in the English language. It wold have been fine had he tried to start with D’s and B’s, but — no — not him — he goes straight to the L sound!

I read these to Mama and she loves them. She says you should write a book.
